As the Dog Days of August* give way to a new academic year, it's BACK TO SCHOOL and renewed intellectual adventure for folks of all ages, circumstances, and backgrounds. AAAS provides tools that:
- Expand access to STEM, STEMM, and STEAM education and opportunities;
- Strengthen and diversify the science and technology workforce; and
- Amplify underrepresented and marginalized voices within STEM.
STEM subjects are focused on providing solutions to the concerns society has today. Human history has seen years and years of mindless and uncaring exhaustion of natural resources with nary a thought about renewable energy and sustainability and the future of our planet and our species. These issues affect the health and well-being of all living organisms on Earth. Thus, sustainability has become one of the most urgent aspects studied by the STEM disciplines.
Youth are said to be more worried about climate change than older generations. Is that really true?
Questions for August:
- How have you seen this manifested in STEM, STEMM, and STEAM education?
- How have you seen changes implemented in STEM, STEMM, and STEAM education?
- How can our AAAS Communities accelerate the implementation of the changes we need to see?
- Are you stunned, dismayed, or alarmed by the rate at which climate change is happening?
- What can YOU do to bring about necessary changes in STEM, STEMM, and STEAM education?
Please think about the evolution of STEM/STEMM/STEAM and freely share your thoughts!!!
