I am long long ago retired, and so I don't have a fresh reading list.

I do recommend two resources, the National Center for Science Education: Evolution Lesson Sets https://ncse.ngo/evolution-lesson-sets, and the UC Berkley: Teach Evolution https://evolution.berkeley.edu/teach-evolution/ .

As the parent of a kiddo starting pre-k this fall, I love this question, Larry! Are you looking for general science books or any particular discipline? It might not be explicitly science education, but I love Dr. Seuss' "The Lorax" for its timeless message about our environment. We also really like "Flow, Spin, Grow: Looking for Patterns in Nature" and "Sounds of Nature: World of Forests" book so we can play the sounds of different forest habitats and explain what they are.
