The Missouri Local Science Engagement Network (MO LSEN) seeks Missouri-based scientists to participate in Engaging Communities in Climate Science Conversations, a hands-on, four-part series of science communications training workshops to connect scientists to local and state decision-makers.

MO LSEN, a partnership of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and Missouri Science & Technology (MOST) Policy Initiative, aims to elevate the voice of science and the use of evidence in civic society and policy discussions.

The training series is free, and space is limited to thirty people.

    The ideal participant will:
    • Attend all three live workshops
    • Commit to the engagement goals of the series
    • Develop a science/policy communications piece
    • Follow through with their specific engagement
    • Provide MO LSEN with feedback and insights about how it went.

The one-hour live workshops will take place at 12:00 PM CST on December 3rd, December 17th, and January 7th. The live workshops will be preceded by a one-hour introductory seminar that can be viewed on-line at any point before the first workshop.

To find out more about this opportunity, please contact: Dan English (dan@mostpolicyinitiative.org) or visit MO LSEN today.

About the AAAS Communicating Science Program
Scientists and engineers who engage the public have opportunities to advance science and serve society but don't always have the tools to successfully formulate actionable public engagement goals to engage critical audiences in conversations about critical issues.
AAAS Communicating Science workshops provide participants with training and support to effectively engage the public. Our interactive workshops help participants build strong foundational skills, whether they are new to public engagement or have prior experience and are ready to take their engagement to the next level. The program addresses the needs of scientists who are motivated to engage but lack the resources to develop their skills and create action plans.

Workshops combine instruction, discussion, self-reflection, small- and large-group work, and structured exercises emphasizing mutual listening, learning, and dialogue. Participants learn about the latest science communication research and public engagement best practices. Facilitators guide them by applying the AAAS Public Engagement Framework in planning their own public engagement experiences.

About the AAAS Center for Public Engagement with Science and Technology
Since 2008, CPEST has offered more than 400 workshops, seminars, and other events serving more than 14,000 scientists and engineers at academic institutions, government agencies, research organizations, and more. Virtual and in-person workshop options include training in basic communication and engagement skills, engaging on social media, engaging the media, engaging policymakers, and engaging around climate science.
