Climate Change & Extreme Weather: Urban Heat Islands

When:  Oct 13, 2021 from 03:00 PM to 04:00 PM (CT)

On October 13, the Missouri Local Science Engagement Network (LSEN) will host a roundtable event about urban heat islands - a major health hazard associated with climate change facing Missouri's urban populations.

Attendees will hear from researchers, decision makers and community organizations about how climate science can be incorporated in sustainability practices. The Missouri LSEN will also provide resources for attendees to easily share the scientific information surrounding urban heat and climate change with their state and local policymakers.

Confirmed panelists include Fengpeng Sun, PhD, University of Missouri-Kansas City and Brendan Shane, JD, Trust for Public Land. We also expect to have another Missouri climate scientist and a city official on the panel.

The discussion will take place on Wednesday, October 13 at 3pm on Zoom. An informal networking event will follow the discussion with a chance to meet panelists and build connections with Missouri scientists and researchers.
