Learn to Present Science Workshop #1 : Crafting the Presentation Story

When:  Feb 29, 2024 from 09:00 AM to 10:00 AM (MT)
Associated with  Utah LSEN Community

"Science is not finished until it's communicated." -Mark Walport, UK chief scientist.

You've proven your hypothesis at the bench. You've painstakingly collected data over months. Now, you must share your findings with the world... or at least with your colleagues in your Research in Progress Presentation!  This is a two-part workshop series that will provide a space to produce and practice your presentation, be it for your departmental Research In Progress or weekly lab meeting.

Workshop 1: Crafting the Presentation Story will cover how to shape and structure your talk to craft a memorable presentation. We will cover mistakes that will lose your audience's attention and techniques that will draw your audience in. At the end of the workshop, you will have the means to transform your research into an engaging story that is accessible to a wide variety of audiences.

Workshop 2: The Art of Public Speaking will teach any aspiring presenter the ins and outs of publics speaking, such as how to project your voice, where to stand in front of an audience, and how to deal with microphones. Participants who would like to receive coaching on public speaking will practice 1 minute of their current presentation project and will receive feedback.

Sign up here: be sure to indicate whether you're planning on participating in the coaching portion of workshop 2.
